Joanne Weston elected Chair and Maedith Radlein elected Vice-Chair

At the Inaugural Board Meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), trustees re-elected Joanne Weston as Chair and Maedith Radlein as Vice-Chair.

Trustee Weston and Trustee Radlein, are in their second and first terms, respectively, as trustees. Trustee Weston served as Chair for the past year, this will be Trustee Radlein’s first time serving as Vice-Chair.

“Thank you to my colleagues for your confidence in me to represent the WRDSB as chairperson. I look forward to working with Vice-Chair Radlein and all of the trustees in the year ahead,” said Weston. “Students, you are the reason why each of us is here at this table. We have the unifying goal to support your achievement and well-being and to ensure you get the best education and caring learning environment possible to help you succeed. How we do this might be the subject of respectful and constructive debate at this table, but I know that each of us is here with the goal of centering and improving student achievement and well-being, as well as supporting staff well-being.”

“I take this responsibility as an opportunity to further student achievement and well-being, as well as to lift up and support the work of staff, families and school community in this complex and vital work,” said Trustee Radlein.

“With this transition in leadership on the Board of Trustees, I want to offer my thanks to outgoing Vice-Chair Woodcock for her commitment to helping students reach their full potential,” said Director of Education jeewan chanicka. “As Chair Weston and Vice-Chair Radlein take on their new roles, I have no doubt that they will continue to support students, staff, parents, caregivers, families and community partners coming together to support all students in achieving their highest potential.”
