On May 17, Hillcrest Public School welcomed three educators from India to learn about the Empower™ Reading Program. Hillcrest runs this reading program as part of the Special Education programming. WRDSB works in partnership with Sick Kids to bring this high quality reading intervention program to our community.
Recently, these educators from India began teaching the Empower program at the Dr. Anjali Morris Education and Health Foundation (AMF) in Pune, India. AMF is a resource centre dedicated to helping students with special learning needs. The teachers wanted to visit a WRDSB school to see the reading program in action. Karen Steinbach, from the Hospital for Sick Children, along with teachers Mugdha Safai, Kavita Bedekar and Manjusha Kulkarni watched a class taught by a Special Education Resource Teacher, Hilda-Anne Bulman.
